SEDD intensifies Inspection Campaigns on Markets

Sharjah Economic Development Department “SEDD” said that it is ready to receive the month of Ramadan, stressing that it is working according to plans placed to secure the emirate's markets and to ensure the safety of all economic practices through its inspection campaigns. The campaigns included all food stores retail sales, men’s and women’s salons, gold shops, in addition to all other economic establishments that are more in demand coinciding with the month of Ramadan, with the aim of ensuring the establishments’ commitment and addressing violators during the holy month.

These campaigns come SEDD’s plan to protect consumers and its concern for the safety of Sharjah's markets. Also, they come in come in line with the Department's strategic objectives to contribute to achieving and leading the comprehensive economic development in the emirate. In addition, SEDD pays great attention to ensure that all economic establishments operating in the emirate comply with all applicable controls and provisions, provide the best services to the consumer, and ensure that goods that do not meet their terms and conditions are not promoted and sold. It should be noted that SEDD organized many inspection campaigns in various cities at Sharjah to ensure safety of economic practices in the market during Ramadan.

Commenting on that, Salim Al Suwaidi, Deputy Director of Commercial Control and Protection Department at SEDD, confirmed that SEDD intensified the inspection campaigns on markets to inform sellers and dealers about latest updates on price lists and products. Also, these campaigns aims at educating merchants about the importance of complying with laws as well as ensuring that consumers are aware about the value of goods and products. Likely, Al Suwaidi stressed that it is important to adhere to clarifying the price to consumer before purchasing to prevent any abuses in the sales process. Also, such thing will help in combating commercial fraud and limiting negative practices that some merchants may resort to, as well as ensuring the accuracy of scales used in them and ensuring their conformity with the specifications and standards approved.

Furthermore, Al Suwaidi pointed out that SEDD is working continuously through a comprehensive field plan to carry out inspection campaigns throughout the year by the competent team of commercial officers during important seasons such as Ramadan and the festive season.
