E-commerce, Delivery Services with Highest Growth Rates in August

Fahad Al Khamiri: “There is a remarkable demand for e-commerce and delivery service licenses in Sharjah this year”. 

 

Sharjah Economic Development Department “SEDD” announced that there have been a significant increase exceeding 100% in a number of activities such as e-commerce, delivery services, “Eitimad” licenses, and contracting licenses of the fifth category compared to last year. In general, the total number of licenses issued and renewed during August 2020 reached 5788 with a growth rate of 48% comparing to the same period last year according to the license reports issued by the Department. In details, the number of renewed licenses hit 5367 ones with a percentage of 49 while the issued ones reached 421 ones with an increment of 28% compared to 2019.

The activities of licenses issued in the emirate varied to include numerous sectors, as the commercial licenses topped the list with 255 licenses, and the professional licenses came in second place with 103 ones, followed by “Eitimad” domestic licenses, then e-commerce and industrial licenses.

Commenting on that, HE Sultan Abdullah bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, Chairman of Sharjah Economic Development Department, said that such data are considered among the most important economic indicators that the Department relies on to study the economic situation in the emirate. HE stressed that SEDD is keen on to move forward in implementing its vision to achieve a diversified competitive knowledge-based economy and innovation, by developing services to match the highest international quality standards in terms of speed to achieve dealers and investors in the economic sector in the emirate, and to complete transactions easily.

Al Suwaidi added that such data confirm the continuous growth of the emirate’s economy, which reflects the great confidence of investors and business owners in Sharjah towards all sectors, which are highly reflected through the indicators that show continued economic growth in the current year.

Furthermore, HE pointed out to the high growth rates in the e-commerce licenses, which confirms the change of companies’ vision and the orientation towards digital channels, especially during the current time and the changes witnessed in the global economic map, in order to serve the local economy, enhance the movement of investments and achieve sustainable economic development in the emirate.

From his side, Fahad Ahmed AL Khamiri, Director of Registration and Licensing Department at SEDD, said that the issued data from the Department indicates that there is a noticeable increase in the investment movement in the existing projects. He added that the data shows that there is a noticeable increase in a number of economic activities whose numbers have achieved a qualitative leap compared to previous years. He carried on that it was noticed through the reports that the number of e-commerce licenses and delivery service licenses doubled, either by issuing new licenses or through adding some existing licenses to e-commerce activities in order to be able to keep pace with the current conditions. These indicators represent the sustainable growth of Sharjah’s economy, as the emirate has a strategy through which it seeks to maintain a good pace in growth rates during the next phase, which depends on attractions that include the distinctive geographical location and the great development witnessed by the service sectors.

Moreover, Al Khamiri emphasized that the provision of developed e-services by SEDD and the usage od latest communication technologies with partners and the public of dealers, and ensuring that services are provided to them smoothly and safely, contributed to encouraging and stimulating their business and expanding their trade and economic activities in the emirate. In addition, he pointed out that such thing comes SEDD’s concerns to implement is strategies aimed at planning and leading the comprehensive economic development in the emirate by improving the satisfaction and loyalty of key customers and partners by adopting best practices in procedures and developing performance.
