SEDD intensifies Inspection Campaign on Markets before Ramadan

Sharjah Economic Development Department “SEDD” has recently intensified its inspection campaigns on various shops and markets in Sharjah. These campaigns are held in order to closely monitor the markets and ensure their safety as well as the rights of consumers and dealers as a preparation for the holy month of Ramadan.

These efforts are part of an integrated monitoring plan implemented by the Department throughout the year, and intensively before and during the holy month of Ramadan, where SEDD organizes awareness and inspection campaigns targeting central markets, shops, and sales outlets, to ensure that all economic establishments comply with the applicable regulations and provisions, thereby enhancing transparency and establishing a fair and safe business environment.

Furthermore, SEDD confirmed that its commercial officers are working according to an intensive program of field visits, which focuses on monitoring establishments’ compliance with clear price announcements, the absence of any practices that harm the consumer, in addition to verifying the safety of promotional offers.

In this context, Salem Al Suwaidi, Director of Commercial Control and Protection Department at SEDD, stated that the Department is keen to intensify its inspection campaigns during seasons that witness active purchasing activity, especially the month of Ramadan. Also, he pointed out that the inspection campaigns aim to ensure the safety of all economic practices in the emirate. in addition, Al Suwaidi added: “We pay special attention to ensuring the safety of scales and measuring devices used in the markets, and ensuring their conformity to the specifications and standards applied in the country, which guarantees the safety of all buying and selling operations, and enhances consumer confidence in local markets.”

Moreover, Al Suwaidi explained that SEDD will continue to inform consumers and dealers with their rights through publishing guidelines and instructions at various channels, and inviting consumers to report any observations or complaints through the official approved channels, which contributes to strengthening community partnership and supporting market stability during the holy month.

It is worth mentioning that SEDD confirmed that the inspection campaigns will be held continuously throughout the month of Ramadan, based on its role in supporting sustainable economic development and ensuring the provision of an organized business environment that meets the aspirations of society and reflects the status of the emirate as a leading economic center.
