UAE Economic Planning Forum concludes in Sharjah

The fifth session of UAE Economic Planning Forum, which was held for two days under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, was concluded. This Forum was organized by Sharjah Economic Development Department “SEDD”, with a strategic support of the Ministry of Economy and the Department of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi. The Forum was attended by number of leading companies in the semi-governmental and private sectors and had the slogan “Future Economy Accelerators... Knowledge... Innovation.. and Developing Human Cadres”.

During the Forum, group of researchers and economic experts discussed the areas of new economic changes and implications, means to exchange of experiences and initiatives, ways to boost economic growth and the elements helping to enhance the country's competitiveness to attain UAE’s 2021 national agenda’s objectives.

In addition, the Forum included introducing current plans and strategies that are to be placed at the level of the country, describing aims to increase Emiratization rate in public and private sectors, adopting government services system in facilitating the business environment "Tamm" that was prepared to improve Abu Dhabi services and to provide best procedures. Also, it included the topic of attaining the improvement of competitive and innovative knowledge-based economy, which is considered one of the most important pillars of the national agenda that aims to make the country one of the best countries in the world of entrepreneurship by encouraging small and medium enterprises in the private sector.

 

Forum Success

HE Sultan Abdullah bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, SEDD Chairman, stated that the Department is proud with the success of UAE Economic Planning Forum in its fifth session. He added that the Forum was an active platform that brought together various stakeholders in the process of developing the national economy in the local and federal frameworks. He continued that the Forum came in line with SEDD’s strategy to enhance prospects of cooperation with various agencies and institutions at the federal and local levels as well as the private sector, which will contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of our national economy.

Likely, HE emphasized that by hosting the Forum, the Department has affirmed it’s sincere desire to actively contribute to strengthening cooperation frameworks at the national level between us and all emirates. Likely, it represented all efforts to enhance the growth of the national economy and to take it to advanced stages at the regional and international levels. All of this will contribute to the advancement of the country at all levels and will help to add to its progress, growth and prosperity. Additionally, SEDD seeks to see the positive impact of the recommendations that emerged from the forum at the level of developing the national economy and promoting economic integration between different emirates in UAE.

 

Developmental Planning in Sharjah

During the closing session entitled “Development Planning in Sharjah”, Sheikh Fahim Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Department of Government Relations is Sharjah, stated in his speech about the role of digital transformation in the planning of Sharjah's economic development that the emirate seeks to achieve digital transformation. Such a thing falls in line with the wise directives of HH Ruler of Sharjah to consolidate the emirate's status and enhance its reputation as an excellent model city that is ideal for living and running business. He stressed on the importance of employing the rapid developments witnessed by the ICT sector to serve the community and benefit from the digital transformation to improve the quality of life and achieve prosperity for future generations, which is the core of UAE 2021 vision.

From his side, Brigadier General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, explained through his speech about the economic security that foreseeing future concept that it can be explained through the ability to know the possibilities that can occur in the future in a particular subject. Such thing can be achieved through the tools, techniques and preparations for the possibilities through placing and conducting plans. Then, he pointed out that foreseeing future objectives include the discovery of problems before they occur and being prepared to face them, rediscovering resources and personal energies and the creation of a security model to explore and determine the role of active partners in the future of security in Sharjah.

On the other hand, Dr. Saeed Musabah Al Kaabi, Chairman of Sharjah Education Council, said during his speech about building human does not recognize age that the Council works through two stages, the first stage is the nurseries and the second relies in the provision of education for adults. He added that the number of “Zdni Elma” centers reached 7 ones at the level of Sharjah with 150 studies published.

In addition, Reem bin Karam, Director of NAMA, pointed out through her speech about providing supportive environment for women in business sector, that some of the reasons to merge women in the market is to improve the performance of enterprises in terms of their services and women's access to many areas of work. She carried on that the technological progress witnessed by the country in general and the Emirate of Sharjah in particular.

From his side, Mohammed Juma Al Musharrakh, Director of Sharjah Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Office (Invest in Sharjah), said that the Office contributes at displaying the best features and investment opportunities that are available in UAE as well as spreading the message that Sharjah is an ideal investment destination with great potential to strengthen its position in the future. He added that the Office contributes to the diversification of economic investments in Sharjah through the initiatives and incentives launched by the emirate for international companies seeking to invest in Sharjah.

Then, Fahad Shuhail, the Group Chief of Staff at Bee’ah, through his speech about green economy.. key to sustainability that the green economy improves human well-being and social justice while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcity where the green economy is low-carbon, efficient and socially inclusive.

In addition, Fahad Ahmad Al Khumairi, Director of Registration and Licensing Department in SEDD, stated that the Department signed several agreements that will serve the economic sector in the emirate that will provide time and effort to the customers. It should be noted that SEDD signed agreement with Sharjah Publishing City and the organization of electronic sales shops on social networking sites in cooperation with Etisalat as well as set up controls for roaming the emirate in cooperation with Sharjah Municipality and Sharjah Police.

Such events include the forum, which is a platform to introduce the investment prospects in Sharjah and introduce businessmen, investors as well as economic entities participating in the distinctive investment elements enjoyed by the Emirate of Sharjah in particular and UAE in general.

Likely, it worked to review the developments of the national economy and its development prospects during the coming period.

Then, he clarified that the Forum highlighted the initiatives, projects and programs that aim at achieving governmental accelerators in UAE and was important for dialogue and exchange of ideas, and to learn best practices and experiences as well as launch initiatives with the participation of governmental and semi-governmental institutions. Also, it aimed to discuss ways of cooperation and synergy based on the government accelerator mechanism, which is an innovative initiative and dynamic platform for all partners involved in mutual action.

On the other hand, Ahmed Al Khashibi, Arad CEO said that they are confident in the diversity of opportunities offered by the Emirate of Sharjah, especially in terms of strategic partnerships between the public and private sectors. he carried on that they are delighted to participate in this forum, which represents an exceptional initiative to promote cross-sectoral relations for the benefit of the economy, thus providing an interactive platform for cooperation between all parties.

 

Recommendations

Abdelaziz Omar Al Midfa, Deputy Director of Government Communication Department, and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the UAE Economic Planning Forum, said that the Forum at its fifth session resulted with number of recommendations. Some of these recommendations are to develop a modern and updated national intellectual property rights strategy in UAE to guarantee the rights of accelerated outputs and the development of intellectual property rights laws, in line with UAE's percentage of 2071. Also, linking the economy to higher education and scientific research and its outputs to keep up with the labor market and future jobs. In addition, involving the private sector as a strategic partner and supporter to implement the vision of leaders and support the process of intelligent transformation. Furthermore, attract and train talent for future jobs that will enable artificial intelligence. Moreover, optimize the use of unified government resources at the local and federal levels to accelerate the transition from the phase-by-step improvement to the construction of integrated passenger flights and the transformation of all government services to unified digital platforms by 2021. It should be noted that the organizing Committee of the Forum will follow up the implementation of the recommendations to ensure the work on its implementation, and presentation of its results during the next forum in the Emirate of Dubai.

 

“Government Economic Network” Holds Meeting at Forum

The Government Economic Network held an extensive meeting during the fifth session of the UAE Economic Planning Forum, which was hosted by the Emirate of Sharjah on 20 and 21 November.

The meeting discussed ways to strengthen the role of the network in coordinating mutual economic events and work to unify the economic activities agenda at the state level, as well as developing mechanisms for cooperation in supporting the economic delegations' participation abroad.

The meeting also reviewed the Charter of the establishment of the network and aspects of development required to meet the development of its role in line with the UAE's 2021.

 The meeting was attended by members of the government network headed by Humaid Al Muhairi, Director of Government Communication Department at the Ministry of Economy, Amna Al Rumaithi, Director of Government Communication Department, Department of Economic Development Abu Dhabi and Mariam Al-Afredi, Director of Government Communication Department, Department of Economic Development in Dubai, Abdulaziz Omar Al Midfa, Deputy Director of Government Communication at SEDD , Mr. Saif Al Suwaidi, Director of Government Communications Department at RAK Economic Development Department, Khalafan Al-Yamahi, Director of Government Communications Department of Economy and Industry in Fujairah, and Shamsa Al Shamsi, Director of Government Communication Department of the Department of Economic Development in Umm Al Quwain.

The network is due to be established in 2015 under the cooperation agreement signed between the Ministry of Economy and the Economic Development Departments in UAE on the establishment of a network of government economic network.

From his side Hamid Al Muhairi, Director of the Government Communications Department at the Ministry of Economy, said that the government's economic communication network will play a vital role in unifying communication efforts among government agencies concerned with economic affairs within UAE at the federal and local levels. It will work to communicate with all member departments by exchanging experiences and exchanging research and studies related to the field of government communication.

 Al Muhairi added that the m utual coordination between the member bodies provides a wider scope for the best practices in the field of government communication, especially with regard to the methodologies, media plans, marketing and administrative procedures followed, as well as unifying efforts in the field of marketing and promotional campaigns in relation to the economic initiatives offered by the country. In addition to the joint programs and initiatives that support the development of the government communication process and are working to establish a media database by utilizing the communication data and communication channels available to the Ministry and various economic departments in the country.
